What You Need to Consider when Renovating Your Home: And How an Interior Designer Can Help
Let’s be honest, it can feel daunting to start a renovation project, and many of us put it off because it takes time, focus and energy. An interior designer can help with the layout of your space, colour schemes, optimal functionality, and stunning aesthetics but there are some important things you need to consider before you begin to make sure your renovation is a success.
Define Your Goals and Priorities
Clearly define your renovation goals. Are you focusing on aesthetics, functionality, or both? You don’t have to compromise but it can be tempting to get caught up in the aesthetics of your new kitchen and lose focus on the paint points you are trying to solve with your current one. Prioritise the areas that will have the most significant impact on your daily life, and how you live. When we get together to discuss your design brief, we will discuss all your goals as well as what works and doesn’t work in your space currently so that I can help you achieve a beautiful, functional space that works for you.
Set Your Budget
Determine a realistic budget for your renovation project, and share this with your interior designer. My mission as an interior designer, and why I launched Tori Gray Interiors, is to make interior design affordable and accessible for anyone, and I can work to any budget. Make sure you factor in potential unforeseen costs, especially if your renovation requires building work.
Decide your Timeline
Set a realistic timeline for your renovation and be prepared for potential delays if you have building work. Even if you are planning to do the painting and decorating yourself, consider when would be a good time to start. Think about what is coming up in your diary, whether it’s a holiday or a friend’s wedding, and plan accordingly. If you’re not sure about timelines we can discuss this on your call and I can help you plan this out to work for you and your busy life.
Consider Long-term Value
Renovating your home can add significant value to your home, if and when you come to sell so it’s an important consideration. Opt for timeless design elements that will stand the test of time, ensuring your renovation retains its appeal for years to come. It can be tempting to hop on the latest trend but it’s worth considering if you are going to love it in five years time. Paint colours and decor can be evolved easily as your tastes change but for more permanent features, such as flooring and lighting, considering longer-term value can really pay off in the long run.
One of the benefits of using an interior designer is that they can help you bring your vision to life, achieve your goals, adhere to your budget and add long-term value to your home. It’s so much more than just a nice colour scheme! Each of my interior design packages includes a consultation call for us to discuss and agree your design brief, where you can relax and feel supported knowing that hard stuff is taken care of and in two weeks you will have a complete design curation ready for you.
